Waipapa Pine Sawmill

Our acquisition of Waipapa, a well-established producer of high-quality sawn timber products strategically located in Kerikeri and Whangarei, expands our product offerings

Waipapa Pine

Waipapa Pine is a well-established producer of high-quality sawn timber products located in Northland. We operate an integrated sawmill and treatment facility across our two sites in Waipapa and Whangarei.

Over the years, we’ve had a heavy focus on employment opportunities for the people of Northland. We have a highly skilled team focused on producing high quality finished structural timber products for New Zealand and export markets.

We work with Radiata Pine sourced from Northland forests, which boasts superior density and stiffness. This resource demands specialised processing techniques to enhance its qualities and create a product that satisfies the demands of the New Zealand construction market.

Waipapa Pine was acquired by Fletcher Building in December 2022. The company remains highly focused on significant investment in people, new technologies and equipment to produce the very best results for our customers.

Renewable Wood Fuels

Renewable Wood Fuels recycle wood residues from the Waipapa Pine sawmill into premium, energy efficient wood pellets that are used as a biomass fuel for commercial businesses.

The purpose of Renewable Wood Fuels is to provide an alternative environmentally conscious and clean renewable source of energy to New Zealand.

The wood pellets are made from repurposed wood shavings sourced from Northland Radiata Pine forests generated during the production process at the Waipapa site.

Renewable Wood Fuels was acquired by Fletcher Building in December 2022.

Fletcher Building is committed to playing a leading role in building a climate-resilient and sustainable economy, and having a positive impact on the environment.  It’s our belief sustainable products and solutions will be the future of our sector, and we are focused on continued innovation to achieve this.

Renewable Wood Fuels contributes to a zero waste, circular and sustainable economy, and provides a cost-effective, clean energy alternate to coal and is driving a positive environmental change.

Overview

Laminex Panel Plant

We are investing $275 million to establish a cutting-edge wood panels plant at the existing Laminex site in Taupo.

This visionary project is poised to revolutionise wood product production, offering superior solutions with diverse applications in furniture, joinery, and the broader construction industry.

The investment involves building a new engineered wood fibre panel production facility which uses innovative technology well suited to serve the New Zealand market but is equally flexible to supply export markets.

This new plant will supersede the current particleboard production line by producing a range of cost-competitive and superior products for the industry.

Civil works commenced in early 2023, with the project expected to take around 2.5 years to complete.
